In The Beginning
In The Beginning
Ray Frank began the manufacture of the Frank Motor Home at his home on Mowerson Road in 1958. His first efforts were for private use only and to test for public reaction. Their efforts were warmly received during a family trip to Florida in the vehicle. An advertisement in a national magazine led to the sale of three. The price range then was $7800.00 to $9700.00. plus options. In January, 1960, Frank Industries was organized formally with Ray Frank, Russell Chisholm, Bradford Klusendorf and Russell Klusendorf serving on the first board. The town's people pledged $19,300 plus land on Maple Valley to start the factory in Brown City. ( Taken From the city's history book )
This is the Sketch that started it all. The date of that history book is shown at the top of this sketch.
Frank Motor Homes, Inc., makers of Dodge Motor Homes in Brown City, are on the move.
The company has received national and international publicity and since this new $30,000 building was built by the Brown City Industrial Development Corp., the company has rented the community building for it's chassis work.
The main building is on Maple Valley Rd.
This new Brown City industry has been in it's new quarters since early spring, 1960.
Instrumental in getting Ray Frank, company president, to choose Brown City was the Brown City Development Corp. which "passed the hat" for funds.
The cooperation of the public in bringing this fine industry to Brown City was excellent.
At last count, the company was getting "an order or two a day" for the complete home on wheels, one of which is shown below.
They showed the drawing first. I got this copy from an ex-employee of Frank Motor Homes Inc.
